Innovation never stops at Veth Propulsion “We have given our control handles a facelift, completely renewed the pilot, changed the details on the electrical shafted handles and equipped the Veth-Jet with a full color display. Next to that now we also offer an option for a integrated mini display.” These are the words of Erik Veth, managing director at Veth Propulsion. The company counts at the moment 120 employees, Of which a couple (three-and-a-half fte) is working fulltime on product development (both hard- and software). Standing still is stepping backwards, is the thought of the Dutch company, although with various systems they are already far ahead or are even market leader. Erik Veth: “We have a company mission in which innovation is one of the mainstays. Our control handles didn’t only get more appearance but also more “intelligence”, which results in an improved ease of operation. Before the reading out of the pilot happened through separate displays, now there is also the possibility of a mini display.”“The system works based on the CANbus-communication system, as a result of which less cabling is needed between different computers. We have developed various modules through which there are no more separate interfaces.” A prominent place on the stand during Europort 2009 in Ahoy Rotterdam was reserved for a rudder propeller with a diameter of 1,90 meters. Veth Propulsion delivers the Veth Z-Drive rudder propellers, contra rotating as well, from 150 up until 2.000 kW with diameters of 60 centimeters (for among others day passenger ships) up until 2,40 meters (for seagoing vessels). These days there is consciously more request for a good yield and contra rotating in combination with the Veth Z-Drive rudder propellers that provides for passenger ships a profit of 15 percent. Since some time Veth Propulsion has a special hall for the production of generator sets at its disposal. Erik Veth: “The excellent quality of the also supplied motors and the cancellation of the capacity limit made sure that the sales of generator sets in spite of the crisis increased from 60 to 130 sets a year, in the course of which the growth is notably coming from the inland shipping.” Generator sets “We deliver the generator sets with the smaller capabilities with a calmly operating SisuDiesel-motor,qualitatively the absolute top, and for the bigger powers with a Scania-motor. As for emission demands these motors are far ahead, which has some fiscal conveniences. The motors are pleasantly priced and technically perfect; the base corresponds to the truck motors, as a result of what the Scania-diesel motors are able to start up very well when cold and side sets don’t subside all of a sudden’.” “for a matter of fact we have build a testing bench in our generator hall with which we can run two sets parallel. With all these developments we show that innovation never sleeps within our company.” Source: Binnenvaartkrant
